ESD Flooring in Denver

ESD flooring protects equipment and workplaces by reducing or eliminating static electricity.

Denver, Colorado Springs and the Front Range

Types of ESD flooring

ESD flooring (electro-static dissipative flooring) protects equipment and workers by reducing or eliminating static, which can disrupt operations, cost money and cause injury. Resinous ESD systems also give exceptional wear, impact and chemical resistance and are easy to clean.

What is ESD flooring?

ESD stands for electrostatic discharge. Static is a charge built by friction, like walking on carpet or rubbing a balloon on your hair. When you touch metal or someone with less charge, it jumps as a spark. Solids, liquids, powder, dust and gas can all build charge.

Anti-static flooring is grounded to the building so the charge conducts to earth instead of sparking to an object.

How ESD floors are grounded

Copper strips connect the floor to the building steel, grounding rods, bus bars, grounding lugs or an outlet ground. Larger rooms need more strips. The strips are stuck to a conductive primer and covered by the ESD topcoat. Your electrician or facilities expert should test every grounding point, even the obvious ones.

Measuring conductivity

Results are measured in ohms with a megohmmeter and recorded independently, or alongside an electrician or facilities expert you choose. Readings fall into conductive, dissipative and insulating ranges, and static dissipative flooring targets the dissipative range.

Protecting people, products and processes

ESD flooring is an infrastructure upgrade and a quality control measure. It controls conductivity while keeping the floor cleanable and durable.
