Polished concrete advantages

Polished concrete floors are attractive, extremely durable, easy to maintain and naturally slip resistant. Dyes add color, mark traffic patterns or match company colors. Polishing the slab you already have also skips the energy and material cost of a floor covering.

Polished concrete floors best uses

Low maintenance polished concrete floors

Polished concrete is much easier to clean than most manufactured flooring. It creates a smooth, seamless surface with no dirt traps or voids, which reduces dust and allergens and stops mold growing in trapped moisture. Durability and lighting

Polished concrete nearly eliminates chipping, scratching, scuffing, fading and visible traffic patterns. That lowers long-term maintenance and total cost of ownership. A highly reflective finish also reduces lighting needs and can improve natural light.

How concrete is polished

We grind the slab with progressively finer grits until it is smooth and level, then hone it. The amount of grinding sets how much aggregate shows, and “salt and pepper” is the usual standard.

A densifier hardens the surface, often applied several times with polishing after each. Sheen runs from satin and semi-gloss to reflective high gloss, and an optional sealer adds stain and scratch protection.

Adding color to polished concrete

Color can be mixed in at the plant, but most floors are dyed after grinding and just before polishing. Dyes control hue and depth, and multiple colors can make design elements.
