Concrete Coatings

Concrete surfaces are often overlooked for preventative maintenance because they are viewed as being a hard substance that is indestructible. Concrete by itself is a very porous material and susceptible to stains and moisture damage if it is left as a bare surface. There are many simple solutions to create an attractive, easy to maintain floor that can fit the exact situation you are looking for. Using pigmented coatings, decorative broadcasts or using the natural appearance of the existing concrete by polishing or using clear sealers.

Concrete Coatings Advantages:

Concrete coatings are available with clear coatings for a natural concrete look, but are also available in nearly limitless options and color combinations for both decorative and industrial flooring options. There are many options to treat and protect new and old concrete surfaces; using decorative and colored coatings or by polishing and exposing aggregate, then using dyes for color and sealing the concrete.

Concrete coatings best uses:

Sealed concrete floors are typically considered a thin mil performance coating that can be extremely cost effective flooring to use. When comparing flooring options, be sure to factor in long term use with expected maintenance and life expectancy of all the options you are considering. Even if the price of having concrete coatings installed appears to be higher than other options, if the other floors need to be replaced sooner, installing a professional grade concrete coatings system might be more cost effective in the long term when adding the cost of replacement and downtime for another installation. A lower cost option might look attractive and might work as a short term solution; but the overall long term cost is often higher. Western Concrete Coatings goal is to reduce the total cost of ownership for your floors by extending the life and functionality of floor coatings by making sure the correct coatings system is used for each individual situation.

About

Polished Concrete

Polished concrete is a process of continuously grinding concrete and gradually using finer and finer grits to create a smooth and level floor. Densifier (hardener) is then introduced to the floor and reacts with the concrete to harden the surface. Then the grinding turns from metal bond diamond heads to using diamond impregnated resin heads, or ceramic bond heads or even copper bond heads; these heads will begin to polish or hone the concrete. This is the stage that the concrete will begin to produce a shine and this is typically the time that a concrete dye can be applied if colored concrete is what you are looking for. Most floors will need to be densified 2 times, polishing after each application. Now the floor can be polished with finer diamond impregnated heads until the desired sheen (shine) is achieved. A polished floor can be used as finished floor; a sealer can also be added for additional protection from staining.
