Industrial Flooring Applications

Need a chemical, abrasion and impact resistant floor? Waterproofing? Slip resistant surface? No problem. As trained and certified installers, we evaluate concrete substrates, evaluate the job site and determine the appropriate preparation and systems to maximize coating performance. When the appropriate industrial flooring system is installed and maintained properly, you can expect the system to last many years, even if it is exposed to extreme conditions.

It is essential to consider all the uses and exposure the floor needs to endure before selecting an industrial flooring system.

When you operate a facility where flooring system failures cause you to fail inspections with the EPA, FDA, or USDA it becomes even more important to make sure the appropriate flooring system is installed and properly maintained. Having a contractor who has successfully installed these flooring systems in a wide variety of situations and is experienced in determining the correct system recommendations to make is a vital element in the process.

Industrial Flooring

In many work environments, exposed concrete can cause extreme corrosion. One good example is a large road maintenance facility where we have completed several flooring projects.

Before

After

This facility has been in use for decades with the concrete floor having ongoing exposure to salt and chemicals. While it was obvious that there was some damage to the concrete, it wasn’t until removing areas of failed concrete that the extent of the damage was discovered. Large voids were revealed and had to be repaired with a resinous mortar and the floor was coated with ¼ inch Urethane Cement plus a top coat. The floors and repairs have continued to perform in spite of heavy trucks and constant chemical exposure since installation.

Another example of major repairs completed from extreme corrosion, occurred in a secondary containment area of a gold mine.

Before

After

Long term chemical exposure caused the failure of the existing coatings along with a concrete substrate failure. The facility failed EPA inspections because of potential ground contamination issues so the coating repair became a necessity. In these situations we install Novolac Epoxy and Vinyl Ester Coatings for chemical and acid resistance in secondary containment areas. At this facility, our first step was to thoroughly prep and repair the concrete with Urethane Cement before installation. This flooring system is ideal for this application because they are highly chemical resistant coatings and can withstand high concentrate acids and caustics. Western Concrete Coatings is MSHA certified in order to work in mining environments safely.

When waterproofing is required, there are several options available. We frequently install waterproofing systems in upper level mechanical rooms in order to contain possible disaster in a providing from upper level leaks and flooding to the floors below. In these situations a flexible membrane is installed along with an integral cove base to prevent any water from leaving the room.

When any type of concrete is exposed it must be protected due to environmental exposure or chemical use. Installing an Industrial Flooring system prevent contaminates from getting into the concrete itself and polluting the environment by seeping through to the ground. Western Concrete Coatings has installed coatings solutions for facilities that have needed secondary containment, cleanroom environment, chemical splash and spill areas, lab testing, along with hospital and pharmaceutical applications.
