Before deciding on a concrete coatings system, take into consideration all the uses the floor is exposed to.
- Is it exposed to heat or cold?
- What type of temperature ranges occur?
- Will chemicals, fuels, grease or salt come in contact with the floor?
- Does it need to be a FDA or USDA approved material?
- Is there light, moderate or heavy traffic use?
- How much forklift or vehicle traffic will there be?
- Does a “collection” point need to be created within each isolation area to ease the collection of spills and/or wash downs.
- Does the surface need to be slip resistant?
- Does the floor need to be durable and decorative?
- Do you need a spark-proof static dissipating environment?
- Do you need secondary containment? Waterproofing?
- Do you need and antimicrobial agent?
- Does it need to be resistant to abrasion or impact? What type?
- Do areas need to be isolated or sloped to prevent various chemicals from merging together, which helps eliminate potential hazards and eases waste treatment requirements.
By evaluating the specific floor performance needed in your manufacturing facility, the appropriate flooring system recommendation can range from using an epoxy system for light manufacturing, to a resinous flooring system up to a heavy industrial system. It is extremely important to know all the conditions the floor will be exposed to and need to withstand so you will get a long lasting floor system installed to meet all your facility’s needs.
Do you already have damaged and crumbling concrete? Concrete coatings can often be used to repair damaged and crumbling concrete due to high impact and high traffic. It is a less expensive alternative to install concrete coatings than to replace concrete.
In addition to fulfilling the specific needs and conditions in the list above, concrete coatings are also frequently used to install pathways for safety and safety striping. In order to improve safety on a production floor, we have created and installed colored epoxy paths designated for pedestrian traffic and a different colored epoxy path designated for forklifts, wheeled, or vehicular traffic. Yellow safety markings were installed to separate the areas.
Several finish options are available depending on the needs of your facility. Smooth finishes can be installed in areas where easy clean-ability is the main concern. Non-slip finishes can be installed in areas where slipping is the major concern.
Whenever possible, planning ahead to minimize losses due to non-production is key. Some companies will increase production to provide surplus inventory or temporarily relocate a line for “must have” parts. We’re able to accommodate installation in phases to minimize down time if that is a concern
Western Concrete Coatings will take your parameters for flooring performance needs, safety, and down time and create a plan with the best options available for your situation.
